Education Changes the World
Why do we follow Don Bosco’s pedagogy?
To make the right to a quality education a reality for every young person in the world, VIA Don Bosco and its local partner organisations are inspired by Don Bosco’s pedagogy.
This 19th century Italian priest and educator dedicated his life to young people. He established a preventive education system that was innovative for its time, based on values such as trust, closeness to young people, excellence, respect for differences and optimism. Don Bosco also realised the importance for young people to follow a comprehensive and holistic education, encompassing both academic learning and the development of values and life skills.
In 1859, Giovanni Bosco founded the Society of Saint Francis de Sales, better known as the Salesian congregation, with the vocation of providing quality education for young people and the mission of running schools, mainly vocational, as well as social centres and parishes. Today, Don Bosco’s pedagogy is internationally recognised. It is a guarantee of seriousness, quality and excellence. Salesian schools are present throughout the world, providing access to quality education for over a million pupils. It should be noted that these schools are open to all young people, regardless of their religious convictions.
As a Belgian and Salesian NGO, VIA Don Bosco follows in the path of Don Bosco’s values and firmly believes in the power of human development based on a holistic approach to training and education. By training students and mobilising them through projects that invite them to grow and reflect so that they become responsible, critical and supportive professionals and citizens of the world.
